Toward Belgium’s national team

Beside the open beOI contest, the beOI organisation also offers beCP: a year-round training track — with coaching, camps, and online practice — for students who want a chance to compete for Belgium internationally.

What is beCP?

The Belgian Olympiad in Informatics runs a public contest open to a wide audience. Beside that path, beCP is a longer-term training track for students who want to go further: harder programming problems, regular practice, and coaches who follow your progress.

The objective is clear: prepare and select students who can represent Belgium at major international olympiads, including:

  • IOI International Olympiad in Informatics
  • EGOI European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics
  • WEOI Western European Olympiad in Informatics
  • EJOI European Junior Olympiad in Informatics

How to join the beCP training group?

Entry into the beCP group is by application. We look for motivated students who train regularly and are curious to learn. Finalists of the Belgian Olympiad may ask to join the group directly.

If you are not a finalist, or if you wish to join the group during the year, you must show that you already have a solid C++ programming foundation and that you are ready to commit for the long term. To that end, if you have not yet entered the sixth year of secondary school, we ask you to solve a list of problems on USACO Guide, using C++.

In practice

Create an account on USACO Guide and join the group via this link so that we can follow your progress. The list of problems for your school year is in the group.

Once you have solved everything, email us at becp@be-oi.be to let us know.

From the sixth year of secondary school onward, contact us if you think you deserve a place in the group. Training for the international olympiads is long-haul work, however. It is up to you to convince us that you will be ready to join the International Olympiad team before the end of secondary school — for example by showing strong results in online algorithmic contests.

How does that training work?

beCP training combines camps, coaching sessions, and independent online practice. Participants receive a variety of problems, feedback on their solutions, and progressive support to strengthen their competitive programming skills. The goal is to build solid foundations and to progress over time. Independent practice is just as important for progress, and the key word for learning is regularity.

How does selection for the national team work?

Selection is based on performance in the selection contests organised during the year and on commitment to training. The most regular and persevering students are more likely to be selected. More details will follow.
